Standard Cubic Tech flexible non-woven composite laminates utilize DSM
Dyneema® fibers. Standard laminates are offered in non-bias (0°/90°) and
bias (0°/90°/+30°/−30°) configurations in a variety of weights (see Cubic
Tech Product Line Specifications listed below).
“Dyneema® is a superstrong, ultra-high molecular weight polyetheylene fiber
that offers maximum strength/weight properties. When compared at equal
weights it is up to 15 times stronger than quality steels and up to 40%
stronger than aramid fibers. Dyneema® floats on water and is extremely
durable and resistant to moisture, UV light and chemicals.” (Source: DSM
Dyneema® Home Page)
Cubic Tech also produces customizable products using other high performance
fibers such as Para-aramids (Kevlar, Twaron), Carbon, Vectran, PBO (Zylon),
Glass, Nylon, Polyester, etc….
Fibers are laminated to high performance films or fabrics, using a
proprietary matrix that is characterized by excellent flexibility, along
with fatigue and UV resistance.
Varieties of low-gauge films with various surface finishes and/or fabrics
are available for the outer surfaces of the laminate and are chosen based on
end use conditions, and material property considerations. These include but
are not limited to Polyesters (PET, PEN, woven), Polyamides (Nylon films or
woven), Polyimides (Kapton, Upilex, CP1), Para-aramids, Fluoropolymers
(PVF, ECTFE, ETFE), Urethanes, etc…
Cubic Tech combines the most appropriate outer surface material and the
proper type and quantity of fibers, oriented in any design required
direction, in both 2D and 3D, to make a laminate that best meets our
customers needs. This may require engineering a special material for an
exotic application, although, in many cases, the customer can simply choose
from one of our approximately 400 existing products.
Cubic Tech’s flexible laminates offer an order of magnitude higher rip-stop
performance when compared on an equivalent weight, thickness, and
gas permeability basis with any competing fabric.
