The 1992 America’s Cup was won by America3 using exclusively sail fabrics made with our proprietary processes. Shortly thereafter, America3 Technologies, Inc. was formed in order to produce a commercial sail cloth using low performance fibers and a simplified manufacturing process. This effort was abandoned at the end of 1996.

In 1997, Cuben Fiber Corporation started to produce advanced versions of the sail fabric that won the Americas Cup. Improved, high technology aerospace manufacturing processes were used with even higher performance fibers and better base material options than those available during Bill Koch's winning cup campaign "America Cube" in 1992. The name "Cuben Fiber" was made up by the press as a tag line for the "America Cube Carbon Fiber Hybrid" sail fabric that contained a mix of carbon and polymer filaments.

Since 2003, all non-sailing applications of Cuben Fiber laminates have been developed by Cubic Tech Corporation.

In 2007, Cuben Fiber Corporation was acquired by North Marine Group and became North Cuben Fiber, LLC.

Cubic Tech adapted the Cuben Fiber laminate technology to the development of high performance non-sailing applications such as high specific strength technical fabrics and tubes, parachutes, inflatables, ballistic armor, and medical devices.

Recently, Cubic Tech applied its multi-layer uni-directional an-isotropic composite membrane process combined with integrated base material technologies, 3D panel production concepts as well as integrated fabrication and seaming procedures to the development of advanced composite flexible airship hulls.
